At the the beginning of 2015, I traveled through Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, and Hong Kong with nothing but a (then) brand new iPhone 6. I wasn’t into photography back then, so you can imagine my surprise when I found photos from that time period that were actually usable.

I was still trying to figure out what I liked shooting back then, but it’s remarkable to see techniques and aesthetics that would only blossom a few years later. I re-edited these images to reflect where I’m at today, but even before I edited these, I was pleased at how much I paid attention to the basics of composition back then.

It also certainly goes to show that the best camera is what you have on you. It’s easy for me to lust after new gear and technology, but in the end, a lot of that work has to be done by the person holding the camera. If anything, seeing these photos only reinforced the fact that I need to run my gear into the ground instead of always going for the latest and greatest.

I hope you enjoy these photos, and please check out my other (more recent) travel photography here!
